What causes lactose intolerance and how can enzymes help?

If our body cannot digest dairy products well, the main reason is a lack of lactase in our gut – the enzyme that digests lactose. Enzymes are designed to break down a specific food or compound, so the more or less lactase we have, the better or worse we can digest lactose. This enzyme breaks down lactose that is difficult to digest and turns it into easily digestible glucose.

But lactose is not the only problem. Many people who suffer from lactose intolerance are in fact intolerant to casein (a protein found in dairy products). That’s why Enzymedica Lacto contains enzymes that break down both components (lactose and casein).

When we don’t have enough enzymes to digest dairy products, the body holds water in the gut, causing unpleasant symptoms such as occasional bloating and digestive problems. There are several causes of lactase deficiency. They can be due to age or even an inborn inability to produce lactase.

Although Enzymedica Lacto contains lactase to digest lactose, it also contains protease. Protease is a protein-digesting enzyme that helps break down casein and milk proteins so that every part of the dairy product is easily digestible. In addition, Lacto contains 7 different enzymes to digest the whole meal.

Directions for use
One capsule immediately before a meal containing dairy products. More may be taken if necessary, as the dose required depends on the lactose/lactase content and quantity of the food and the individual’s lactose tolerance. The contents of the capsule may also be dissolved in drinking water or mixed with food if it is not overheated (above 40°C).

Keep closed in a dry place, avoid excessive heat.
