Cocoa powder contains many rare and beneficial nutrients. Raw cacao also contains far more antioxidants than any other well-studied food, including red wine, green tea, and blueberries.
Many of the healthy properties of raw cocoa have not been preserved in industrially produced cocoa and chocolate.
Crushed and peeled unroasted cocoa beans are perhaps the most antioxidant-rich food in the world (antioxidants make up 10% of cocoa weight), containing more than 1,200 active ingredients. Raw cacao contains the most magnesium, in addition to significant amounts of iron, chromium, calcium, zinc, sulfur and copper.
Raw cacao is also a good source of fiber, containing a lot of vitamin E and C. Also known as the "food of the gods" or "good mood food", raw cacao also contains feel-good substances in the body such as tryptophan, 5-HTP, serotonin, dopamine, phenylethylamine and anandamide.
Cocoa powder can be added to muesli, porridges, yogurt, smoothies, desserts and, of course, used as an ingredient in raw chocolate.
